Just parade 50 horses not saddled up and let punters bet first 4 races on fitter horses, cool.

RACING Victoria will analyse the betting data from Cranbourne’s 20/20 night racing venture as it assesses the role the concept has in future programming.

RV Executive General Manager Racing Greg Carpenter said from an operational and logistic perspective the abbreviated duration of the meeting was a success.

Carpenter said restricting jockeys to not riding in consecutive races was an issue aired in the fallout from Cranbourne’s initiative of conducting an eight race program in two hours and 20 minutes.

He said betting turnover from all operators would be received later in the week and this would be digested along with all other elements of the meeting.

Victorian Jockeys Association CEO Des O’Keeffe said jockeys were complimentary on how the meeting flowed operationally, but did not believe it was fair to place a ceiling on the number of rides they could take.

O’Keeffe said jockeys believed they should be able to ride in consecutive races given the ability to weigh out in advance.

Carpenter said the additional staff - stewards, vets, race-day officials - helped the program flow seamlessly

“We will sit back, look at the feed back from all industry participants and the wagering results when they come through,” Carpenter said.

“It was good to prove that we can do it, now we’ll look at its impact on wagering.”

Carpenter said the Cranbourne Turf Club is keen to pursue further 20/20 type meetings on its night racing calendar
