Palentino (98% fit) Champion or dud?
Chc 3 year old Teofilo x Palentine Hill
Good morning members on Friday night we had the running of the time honoured William Hill Alister Clark Stakes
race over 2040m @ Moonee Valley.
The much talked about and recently sold to stud, Palentino fronted up as a short priced favourite after winning
the Australian Guineas over 1600m and was expected to walk in.
Is this horse a champion or a dud?
I think the new owners of Palentino, a nothing special to look at horse; need to be careful of their multi-million
dollar investment if they want a successful stud career.
I am not say he will not be a good sire, but his ability on the track, anything over 1600m is in serious doubt.
On a fit 98% Palentino looked in trouble to run out the 2040m and the impressive type Tally (98%) fit, well and
truly had his measure and gave him a licking over the concluding stages of the racing, winning easily.
Palentino, which has to race in Group 1 class; needs to drop back to 1600m to have a better chance, but really
his Strength and Hypertrophic fitness levels are just not there.
When you step out amongst the big boys and classy mares you need every edge you can get and to me he just
does not have it in his physic.
Their best shot would be try one more race over a shorter distance or set him for a first up win after a break and
then suggest he may have an injury and retire in a blaze of glory.
The longer he races, the less his stud value will be.

Jim
