Chautauqua lost the Newmarket because it was unfit on low 97% levels.

When the race was there to be won at the 300 metre marke, he did not let down with his usual brilliant burst because they missed on his blood count level of only 90%, his strength factors were down 20% and his fitness levels were low because he was 2nd up, giving him an overall rating of just 97% fit, not good enough for such a talented horse.

Don't worry about what ever else you read, the trainer missed his peak fitness and he still had 3 lengths to go in fitness for a multy million dollar race.

Now punters he can bounce back big time next start at now some nice odds.

Cheers Jim

Not sprinter Chautauqua's day: John Hawkes

It simply wasn't star sprinter Chautauqua's day, co-trainer John Hawkes says.

Chautauqua went into Saturday's $1.25 million Newmarket Handicap as $2.45 favourite and carrying 58kg but had to settle for third behind The Quarterback and Black Heart Bart.

Co-trainer John Hawkes said the sprinter raced well.

"It wasn't his day today," Hawkes told AAP.

"You can't win them all - that's horse racing."

Australia's equal-highest ranked sprinter last year was looking to break through for his first Group One over the straight 1200m course at Flemington after three previous second placings.

Chautauqua finished second to Brazen Beau in the race a year ago with 55.5kg but had since won three weight-for-age Group One sprints: the TJ Smith Stakes, Manikato Stakes and the Lightning Stakes.

A victory would have made Chautauqua only the fourth horse in 50 years to carry 58kg or more to victory in the Newmarket.

Hawkes, who trains in partnership with his sons Wayne and Michael, said the nature of handicaps meant horses with light weights were always hard to beat.

The Quarterback had 52kg.

"The winner was too good," Hawkes said.

"He (Chautauqua) wasn't good enough on the day."

Chautauqua heads to Sydney for his main autumn target, the defence of the TJ Smith at Randwick.

Hi Punters

A great day yesterday on exotics and winners, midweek a stack of more winners because less chances in a race,

Saturdays u have to go wider and get the big exotics, one paid $12,000, but had winners on top and top line

most of the day.

The protest upheld on Preferment was great for members and @ $8 fixed it was our 1st tip from the yard.

Did two meetings on twitter plus live sms to members, so no time to scratch yourself, too much in fact.

I never had time to do my fitness% sheets just text messages on twitter (punters may well “love” our sheets a lot

more)

The pace of above was too hard and will be easier when we are up and running.

Trial tips straight after the trials, way ahead of broadcasting and we have an edge.

#skytips Warwick Farm Trial 16, black book, nice type winner Mystical Tail low 96% fit , Channel 97% who led, cheers Jim rt

Trial form is big business for keen punters and this information is priceless as no one else can do as 28.8 does.

This is a real edge for our members.

There are trials on all the time, either on tele or live.

When Cranbourne have trials they usually have up 40 trials with 300 horses, we can pick

the best out now worries.

Many horses are “saved” in trials from a winning performance to keep the price, but they won’t fool us.

As I said big business and a great edge for 28.8 members.

Pies look great.

A massive week on tipping winners and records getting broken all the time.

Back again during the week as look like being tied down with my sore heel for awhile.

Cheers

Good evening punters another great day on the punt on twitter with plenty of winners and some huge across the board

exotics with one paying best tote $12,000.

I am really in the wars, working with a sore heel on my foot today and after 3 days of gout pills things are still running on a 8-9-10/10 pain factor, so

somethingelse is very much wrong.

Evidently there are bones in your heel and I may have damaged some of them.

Off to the doctor Tuesday and all this may of enchanced my retirement by a few months, see what happens.

Will watch the pies I taped tomorrow morning as i was doing the races.

Struggled through today but punters won and that is all that matters.

cheers Jim
